When someone first meets's Itzal they'll notice that he's a very secretive canine. He does not like sharing his feeling's or thought's with a total stranger and even then someone close to him he's nervous to share with. Next would be his brooding demeanor. He appears dark and menacing and deep in thought despite having a very slim and light appearance given his species. Though that's not to say he's not a solemn kind of guy. In fact, ever since his mate's tragedy he's caved in on himself he's cut back on smiling and laughing let alone smirking. He's very serious and hardly goof's around. He's become more alert and reserved than he used to be before. However, the intensity that Itzal carries around with him has alway's stayed the same. He has alway's showed and expressed strong feelings or opinions on a matter and at times this can make him seem way more extreme than he actually is. Itzal's is a proud wolf who has a very high opinion of himself. This doesn't necessarily mean he's arrogant. In fact, he's pretty chill. He's proud of who he is and what he's accomplished in his life time. Not only that, but his training as heir has taught him that he should always walk with his head held up no matter who knocks him down.
Yet the rustic male is determined to succeed and try to get his mate to remember him. His determination is his main drive, it's what pushes him forward and makes him excel in various tasks he set's in front of him. To him everything in life is seen as an obstacle waiting for him to conquer it, it's just a matter of time before it happens. This leads to his dominate personality. He does not just lay down and cower before others. It's not in him to do so. He was not raised that way and even if he wasn't he wouldn't do so. He believes respect is earned not given, one must earn his respect. He won't just freely give it to you. You can beat him and push him down, but he won't back down, he will fight for what he thinks is right. Itzal is a patient man. Dealing with his mate's condition, having to deal with peace treaties with neighboring pack's required vast amounts of patience and not to forget that he had to uptake the role of Hunter when his mate was injured. Stalking herds and small rodent's for hours took its toll. It's no wonder why Itzal is very patient when it comes to things; perhaps a little too patient. Itzal has an air of elegance to him that other's may lack. He comes from a bloodline of Royal's so it's only fitting that he has a graceful walk and a stylish elegance.
The Maned Wolf is a religious patriot of the land and Gods. He has alway's devoted his time to praying and thanking the Gods for what he has in his life. But at the same time he know's when to take action in his own paws. He won't idly stand by and wait for the Gods blessing to take action when lives are at risk, he will do something even at the risk of angering the Gods. Being heir of his pack has given him some political knowledge when it comes to dealing with treaties and alliances. He's no stranger to the game of politics and though he doesn't enjoy it he's actually very good at it. He has a mind built to calculate the pros and cons of starting a war and making alliances with others. Not only that, but he's a kind of guy that get's straight to business. He hates dodging questions and thus results in him being blunt as all hell. He will say what's on his mind no matter how harsh and cruel it may sound. He does not really care if it'll hurt your feeling's though during peace talk's and if he really does care about you, he'll try to have a filter. Though he can't promise anything. He hates sugar coating things.
Itzal obsesses over his mate's welfare. He's constantly worrying and making sure his mate is happy in healthy. At first, it started off with him only being helpful but slowly over time, it's manifested into an obsession that he can't control nor does he really want to. He's also grown very possessive of his mate. The amount of fear and how powerless he felt the day he was banished from his pack and his mate was sentenced to death was overwhelming. He never want's to feel like that again. So as a solution he's become possessive of his mate. A constant looming shadow and guardian that watches over him. He doesn't take too kindly when his mate flirt's or plays coy with other's, especially in the Fengari pack they now reside in. However, Itzal is selfless and if it truly came down to it he would let go of his mate so Akeno could move on and find a new partner to settle down with. It wouldn't matter how heartbroken or how much agony it would cause Itzal. As long as he could see a smile on his mate's face would be good enough for him. Itzal bears a lot of regret on his soul. He regrets telling his sister of his forbidden mateship. He even regret's spending that night on the cliff with Akeno. He regret's not stepping down as heir and he regret's not being able to save his mates and brother-in-law's parents. But ultimately he regret's not running away from his pack with his mate. If only he had done that then none of the consequences happening there after would have happened because they wouldn't have been there for them.
So much regret as left him desperate and gloomy. Sometimes he feel's that his mate's situation is so bad that it's impossible to even think of going on. His despair hit's him at unwarranted hours of the day, leaving him to wallow in self-pity and hopelessness. During these episodes, he can sometimes get very bitter when he see's other couples having a good time. It stabs at his heart and leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Then he can get aggressive and sarcastic should anyone try to even attempt to talk to him about his situation. Itzal is a hateful canine. He can easily hold a grudge for long periods of time depending on what you did to offend him and his honor. He's also courageous and won't hesitate to risk his life if another's is in danger, especially if the other is helpless.
One can easily see and tell that Itzal is a repressed wolf. Though it's not that other's oppression rather that he represses himself by denying himself thought's and feelings that he know's he cannot act upon because of certain circumstances. He mentally and emotionally tortures himself because he blames himself for what happened to his mate. This leads to his self-loathing, something that's been slowly growing into a problem. No one can hear the thought's that go on inside his head and so they'll never truly understand how deep his self-hatred runs. He can try explaining it to them, but they'll never truly get what he's saying... not matter how many times he tries to explain it. Despite the days and weeks and months that continue to pass by Itzal is still hopeful that his mate will remember him. He clings tightly to that tiny flame of wishful thinking that continues to burn. Even as it dims a little more each day that goes by, taking away the little hope and sanity Itzal has left with it.He might not have a damaged brain or shattered memory, but he suffer's too. He deal's with his very own demons, believed to be sent by the very Gods themselves.
APPEARANCE Coming from a bloodline of Royal's it's only fitting that Itzal stands out from others with his elegance and beauty. A rustic burgundy red pelt mixed with streaks of a burning orange have him stand out against the others in the Fengari Dynasty. However, it's absolutely perfect for blending and camouflaging in the deserts and savannah's that he now currently resides in. Like all within his species, Itzal display's his species characteristic white 'bib' that can be found underneath his throat. He also has a distinctive black dorsal mane that travels down the back of his neck and ends at his shoulder blades. Long slender black socked legs help him travel greater distances when running. He also adorns a white tail tip that completes his fox like appearance. Dark evergreen pools adorn this brutes head. Like most in his species Itzal is no different, he has large round ears that sit atop his cranium. This allows him to funnel sound into his ear drums. During summer and spring, Itzal's fur is silky smooth and short thus allowing him to be out in the sun for long periods of time without fearing of overheating. In winter and fall his fur thicken's out and has a more rough feel to it. Given his year traveling as a rough and his years living in his birth pack, Itzal has acquired many scars that he carries with pride. Each telling a story of their own. Yet despite all his scars, Itzal is a picture of beauty and grace.
HISTORY Itzal wasn’t actually born in Fengari like the canid's he surrounds himself with today. In fact, he was born into a pack known as the Lupus Rubrum deserta pack which roughly translates into Red Desert Wolf in Latin. This pack roamed across the desert's it thrived under, running wild and free as open as the deserts would allow. It was truly a place of paradise. Itzal's parents were known as the Alpha and Alphess of the pack, the ruling regime at the time that controlled all the lands they saw. The pack was known for their strict laws and old fashion way's, they weren't very progressive in regards to new traditions and allowing new or unorthodox ideas into the pack. So many can imagine the uneasiness that spread throughout the pack when the Alpha's and Alphess' pups were born at night. Not only that, but their only daughter was born blind and there were two stillborns. Most of the pack's puppies were born in the morning under the sun that the pack praised and worshiped. The pack was known as the "Sun Runner's" and so when a litter was born at night they were deemed cursed. Two stillborns and a blind puppy only reinforced this train of thought.
The surviving puppies were Itzal, his blind sister who wasn't named at birth, and his brother Azrail. Itzal was the eldest out of his sibling's which meant he was crowned heir to the throne at a very young age. This later would present problems for both the pack and create a rivalry between the two brothers. Given their untimely birth Itzal's and his siblings were given little to no attention by their parent's. Sure, they were fed and attended to when the time came, but otherwise, they were left to one she-wolf who cared for them. Her name was Cicily, but the pup's called her Nana since saying her name at such a young age was a mouth full. The old Maned Wolf acted as the parental figure that Itzal and his siblings lacked, something they desperately needed in this cruel and harsh world. When the pups were finally weaned of their mother's milk it was then they were thrown to the wolves.
During the time the siblings left their den to go out and explore they were instantly given weird looks and scorning sneers. Especially Sisko, Itzal's little sister who he ended up naming since he found it unfair that she didn't have a name of her own but he and Azrail did. It was during these times that the pups started displaying their personalities. Azrail was a fiery pup who had a bad temper and a bit of a big mouth, he was easily riled up and was jealous of his brother being heir to the throne. He constantly bugged their parent's about reconsidering the position's title, but they either ignored him or told him off. Allowing his jealousy and anger to fester and grow. Itzal's blind sister, on the other hand, was growing into a wise and calm she-wolf who knew more than she let on. Yet she was still naive and let anyone who wanted to be her friend in only to get hurt in the end. The rustic brute himself was quiet and calm, however, inside he had a burning fire that glowed brightly behind his green oculars. He intimidated those that he met and enacting his wrath would be a false move on your part. The pack quickly knew not to mess around with Sisko, especially when Itzal was around.
As the pups grew they were made into pupil's and given a mentor that would help train them in their everyday duties. Sisko decided to become a Herbalist while Azrail trained and put all his effort into training as a warrior. Since Itzal was the next in line for being Alpha he was instead trained by his mother and father and the betas of the pack. He was often times pushed beyond his limit, left feeling exhausted and broken. The rigorous training left Itzal little time to spend time with his sister and brother thus driving a wedge further between him and Azrail. It also left Sisko vulnerable to the pack's mocking and scorning sneer's that she couldn't see. Luckily Azrail stepped in as Sisko's bodyguard, effectively replacing Itzal's place by Sisko's side. What both Itzal and Sisko didn't know was that this was Azrial's first step in gaining the throne to become Alpha. When Itzal did have the time and energy to spare to go visit Sisko she would give him the cold shoulder, blaming him for her misery and praising Azrail for protecting her. The two got into a fight about it before Azrial interrupted them, it was then that Itzal took out all his anger and frustration out onto his brother. The two were already had a rocky relationship and this just happened to push Itzal over the edge. The two fought like crazed dog's, biting and slashing at each other, trying to aim for each other's throats to land a killing blow. A crowd had gathered by this point, aroused by the sound of vicious snarling and scuffling of dirt. When Itzal had managed to finally pin Azrail below him he had no mercy for his brother. Both his mother and father stood watching him along with most of the pack, if he hesitated now it would show that he was a weak ruler and thus he would be shunned by both his parents and his pack wouldn't follow him. And so he slashed at his brother's face, mauling his brother's face for all to see and so both canids would remember this day. When he was finished he left his brother to be attended by his sister who was weeping behind him, horrified by the gruesome sight of her brother.
Itzal had done a lot of damage. Azrial was missing his left eye and he had gruesome scar's that ruined his otherwise good looks. The sad thing is Itzal didn't feel an inkling of remorse. Instead, he felt powerful and dominant and for once in control. He liked the feeling of control and satisfaction it gave him, but at the same time, those very same feeling's are what unnerved him the most. He fled from the scene not yet ready to face his parent's praises or the pack's appraisal. He needed time alone, time to think and clear his mind. His sister's panic and pathetic whines pulled at his heart, willing him to go back to her and comfort her, however, he held fast in his course and loped away from the crowd. He ran for what felt like hours until he finally collapsed from exhaustion, spooking a herd of white tailed deer that were near by. What he didn't know was that there was another Maned Wolf who was hunting the exact herd that he had by chance spooked off. The fact that startled Itzal was that this particular canid did not care for his rank, everyone knew who Itzal and his siblings were and yet here was this Hunter yelling and complaining at him like he was just an average packmate. This intrigued Itzal enough so that he was left speechless and dumbfounded. How should he respond? Should he yell back? After all, he did just chase off the other wolf's prey and it would be unfair of him to punish a Hunter only doing his job. So there Itzal laid in the sandy earth looking like a confused and beaten down puppy. The Hunter who was previously yelling at him finally calmed down and apologized before introducing himself as Akeno. The name Akeno meaning "In the morning; bright shining field; beautiful sunrise/dawn." To be honest it was a fitting name for the wolf that stood before Itzal. Akeno was built for speed and agility with his slender frame that was accompanied by long thin legs that helped him chase after prey. Gentle muscles accentuated Akeno's body, emphasizing certain areas on his streamlined body. Last but not least Akeno had fiery golden brown eyes that shined with the youthfulness that young pups in the pack carried around with them. To Itzal, Akeno was breath taking and a glorious being who he had the pleasure to meet.
However, such speculations were forbidden in his pack not to mention action of undertaking a male as a mate was seen as unorthodox and unnatural. Should he ever act on these tainted thoughts would lead to the death of Akeno and the banishment of himself. That wasn't something he wanted to do nor did he want to cause any grievances to Akeno's family. It seems like Akeno had different thought's on the matter. Itzal had agreed to help the male with his hunting for the day given that he had spooked off his earlier prey without any warning. To put the hunt in a short summary it ended in epic failure. Itzal kept spooking the prey before they even got close enough to catch their quarry. Akeno would laugh and mock Itzal like they were best friends and like Itzal was the next in line Alpha. It was a welcome relief though.
After that hunt, the two split off to go their separate ways. Itzal, however, was crushing hard and honestly, enjoyed the feeling of freedom that he felt when he was around Akeno. Yet despite the rustic males training the two brutes crossed paths often and quite frequently. It was like fate wanted them to be paired together and Akeno wasn't making it any easier on Itzal by flirting or acting coy around him. Akeno kept asking Itzal if he would like to go on a hunt with him and to keep his tainted thoughts from becoming realities Itzal would decline until finally, he accepted when he knew Akeno wasn't going to give up anytime soon. That's what consisted of their bond, what nurtured the feeling's between the two males and let it blossom into something strong and exquisite. Nothing in the world would ever be able to make Itzal feel so wanted and so loved in the world again. The two were kindred spirits just waiting to meet and develop a relationship together. So on a winter's eve late at night when the two were out on their own, months after their first meeting Itzal finally confessed his feeling's for Akeno. It was a strenuous moment of silence and Akeno thought about his words. This, after all, would be a forbidden relationship in the pack, something that would put not only their lives at risk but also their family's. Well, Akeno's at least considering Itzal was born to a highborn family. It was a welcoming relief to know Akeno shared the same feeling's as Itzal did. The moment the three letter word of, "I do too" came out of Akeno's mouth was when Itzal was filled with satisfaction and intoxicated with a jubilant amount of joy that he couldn't help, but yip out in cries of pure ecstasy as he bounded around his mate in glee. This was the best moment in his life, a memorial time when all the good thing's started happening and when he finally felt like he had a purpose to live. He had someone to fight for... he just wished he could shout their relationship to the heavens without having to fear for Akeno's life. The very thought of Akeno dying had the brute's heart lurching in despair.
Yet when Akeno agreed to become his mate a moment of sadness befell upon Itzal. The two would have to sneak around, unable to show public affection towards one another in front of the pack. However, the taste of forbidden fruit was worth it in every sense of the way. The hardships the two males encountered was tough and rocky in the beginning of their relationship, they were skitterish around each other in fear that someone would find out about them. However, as the days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months the boys finally calmed down and relaxed around one another, finally able to enjoy each other's company without worrying. One day Akeno took Itzal to meet his family unaware that his mate had already told his family that he and Itzal were a thing. Akeno's mother and father were over joyed while his brother Ralis, took a little bit more convincing. However, all three agreed and supported their mateship, assuring Itzal that their secret was safe with them. It wasn't long before Akeno's parent's became like mother and father figures to Itzal. Something he's been severely lacking his whole life was parental guidance. He didn't see much of his Nana since she was busy rearing other pups and he was alway's busy with his duties or sneaking off with Akeno. He only hoped Nana could understand once he told her what he was up to if he could even do it.
It was during this time that Sisko and he reconnected. Allowing bygones be bygones. Unbeknownst to him, this was the beginning of his down fall and a step closer towards tragedy. During their month's of rekindling Itzal finally spilled the beans of him having a mate and that he was a guy. He knew he could trust his sister or at least he thought he could. She was mortified at first which was understandable, but he quickly moved on to explain just how much Akeno made him happy and just how fulfilled Itzal felt. When he explained that Sisko nodded like she understood and had an unreadable expression on her face. He shook it off as nothing, but her letting his words sink in and wrapping her mind around what he said. It wouldn't be until a few day's later that Itzal's world will turn upside down. Two day's later Akeno and Itzal sat in the desert at the edge of a cliff with the moon shining down on them. It was a romantic evening that both used to get to know one another better. They openly showed affection by snuggling and nuzzling against one another and just talked. They talked about many things from what they thought about the current pack's thought on same sex couples and Akeno reassuring Itzal that he would be a great Alpha and then they managed to stumble upon the topic of kids. Neither one really thought about on if they would even have children and how they would raise it given their circumstance if they even want kids, what they'll name them and so much more. The conversation was very interesting and it definitely made Itzal excited for parenthood so long as he settled down with Akeno. They both settled on a name they liked for a pup if it was a boy, Auru and if it was a girl, Kehlani. It was shortly after they affirmed these names that Itzal's parent's, some warriors, and his brother and sister - Sisko and Azrial came out from some bushes that the two males jumped to their feet.
During that moment Itzal's heart literally stopped. He was rendered speechless until his blazing green eyes landed on his younger sister. She was the one who turned them in, who gave them up after she promised she wouldn't tell, swore on her life that she wouldn't give away their secret. She wasn't looking at them, the coward avoided his gaze and continued to stare at her paws like they were the most interesting thing in the world. The amount of fear Itzal felt was unnerving. It was just silent as the two opposing sides assessed one another, determining one another before finally, Itzal's father spoke. "Do you have anything to say for yourself?" He snarled out before Itzal replied with a surprisingly steady no. By this time he stood in front of Akeno, shielding him from his family's nasty glares and the accusing looks from the pack's warriors. It was then that his father had finally said out loud the bone-crushing words that would make Itzal made with hate, "I hereby banish Heir Itzal Cornith of the Lupus Rubrum deserta pack and sentence Hunter Akeno Siwen of the Lupus Rubrum deserta pack to immediate death." That's when the three tag along warrior's with his family including Azrial attacked Itzal and Akeno. Itzal was a natural born fighter and so he took on three wolves while two got past him to go after his mate. Itzal knew he couldn't afford to become distracted, otherwise, the pack would win and end up getting to his mate. That wasn't something he wanted to happen and so he fought with all he had until finally, he heard a smack then a sickening crack and a loud yelp before he turned around to face his mate just in time to see him fall over the edge of the cliff. Luckily there was water at the bottom, but given how hard Akeno just hit his head Itzal doubted he was even conscious so he fought his way towards the edge and jump right on over. Not hesitating even once and he fell to the fast approaching water. When he hit the water he fell in and burst to the surface for air before he began his frantic search for his lost mate. He ended up finding him just before he went under the water once more. Itzal grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, taking note of the blood on the top of his head and he swam down the river, allowing the current to take them out of the Lupus Rubrum deserta pack's territory.
When they finally reached safety Itzal dragged them to safety and tended to Akeno, having some herbal knowledge when Sisko and he were reconnecting. Her betrayal still stung, however, he didn't have time for her when he had to focus on Akeno's health. For three week's Itzal tended to Akeno until finally, both he and Akeno's brother Ralis stumbled upon one another by chance. Ralis ended up telling Itzal what happened after he left. Their parents were killed, Ralis being the only one to escape and how Azrial was spitting on his name and honor. For another two week's two brother-in-laws helped take care of Akeeno until he finally woke up. It was a joyous day for Itzal for he could finally shower his mate in love and kisses, only when he did try to do that Akeno acted like he didn't even know him. Something that was certainly weird, even for Akeno. When Itzal made the move to do it again Akeno reacted the same way but more hostile. It wasn't until Akeno calmed down when he recognized his brother and that everything was explained to him. Itzal ended up asking what Akeno could remember, his heart crumbling in dejected hope at the heart-crushing thought that his mate doesn't even know or remember him. The agony he felt was almost unbearable that he couldn't breathe. However, Itzal didn't cry. Instead, he gave a shaky smile and excused himself to give the brother's some privacy. There he went on a stroll and vented to himself.
When Akeno was brought up to date and Itzal returned the two ended up talking. Akeno ended up breaking off their according mateship with one another since he 'didn't want to hold Itzal back'. What he didn't know was that he caused Itzal a lot more pain and grief than he did breaking up with him. All he wanted was to be happy again. He wanted to live his life with Akeno, to die old together and have fights with one another. Itzal wanted to have that family they were talking about having that fateful day before this tragedy happened. He wanted Auru and Kehlani.
When Akeno turned around to leave him alone with his thought's Itzal continued to sit there in silence. Already mourning the loss of his mate, his light, his everything. The wind blew a bitter cold wind, already showing signs of winter yet Itzal didn't feel a thing. He was too numb to feel anything. It was during this moment that Itzal gave up. He finally let the few bittersweet tears he had out. A sarcastic smile on his face as he shook his head, a few tears rolling down his cheeks. The Gods were messing with him! They allowed him to enjoy what felt like paradise only to snatch it away laughing like maniac's and tell him 'no'. What a cruel world we have ladies and gentlemen. Itzal sat there for what felt like hours until Ralis finally joined him and gave a little pep talk. He managed to inspire and motivate Itzal, giving him hope that maybe one-day Akeno will remember him and all their adventures. And so to this day Itzal is ever hopeful that his mate will remember him and share the same feeling's that he has for him.
