King Galbatorix has fallen. A century-long reign of fear, corruption, and oppression has ended. It might come as a surprise, then, to find that Alagaesia is not celebrating the coronation of their new Queen Nasuada. The Rider War did not just bring the return of dragons and freedom for the kingdom; it brought more bloodshed and destruction than Alagaesia has ever seen before. No one was left unscathed. Towns must be rebuilt, the new political order must be established, and the dragon Rider Order is pitiful compared to its former legendary glory. Urgals, still considered feral primitive beasts by many despite their part in defeating Galbatorix's Empire, are hated by their neighbours as they move into human cities to attempt friendship with the other peoples of Alagaesia. To make matters worse, rumours have started of mysterious outlanders spotted by the dwarves of the Beor Mountains...
